I intend to provide you with a every other week updates of the Chair and
the Commissions office.
• Staff and Office
1. Obtained funds from UAB for ½ FTE administrator
2. Obtained commitment from at one other source for remaining funds for
½ FTE
3. Seeking funds for a second secretarial person have 2 possible leads.
4. Obtained volunteer services of Mike Craven Sales Engineer to work on
educational programs 2-3 days per week.
5. Hired Doris Lowe as administrative assistant starting 8/23/04
6. Obtained at no cost a conference room from UAH plus 2 offices in
Shelby Lowe Building

1. The implementation of senate bill 502 that creates an Alabama cost
initiative board that allows the state to negotiate rebates with

a. Development of dedicated protected, adequate, stable, and recurring
state revenue sources for funding of Alabama Medicaid and SCHIP.

We hope to have the complete minutes of our
August meeting distributed by next week.
• Conversations
i. Spoke with 6 of the 7 chairs at length
about their plans.
ii. Spoke with Ralph Stacy about organizing our state wide chamber
meetings. A planning meeting is in the works.
iii. Spoke with Mark Pauly a Professor of Health Economics at the
University of Pennsylvania. He is willing to serve as a free consultant
to our group.
