Actions of Committees that have met in June – July

Unintentional injuries
§
Rededicated to passing legislation on child restraints
and car phone use

Plan to create a grass roots mechanism to educate
legislators about value.
§
Plan to develop a proposal for a North Alabama Trauma
System that would be integrated into Birmingham system.
§
Awaiting presentation of EPI marketing plan.

Pharmacy Committee
§
Supporting and Preparing legislation that would allow
international graduates of pharmacy schools into Alabama to meet
workforce needs
§
Plan under development, with committed financial
support to bring a cost saving pharmaceutical system to ERC’s University
Consortium. (Program under auspice of Auburn School of Pharmacy.)
o
Uninsured Committee
§
Will assume ERC oversight responsibility for Child
Caring Program.
§
Will work closely with Medicaid to assure adequate
funding. There will be challenges in 2006 budget.
o
Hospital Committee
§
Developing plan to enhance State Health Plan to improve
scientific base.
§
Preparing a proposal to obtain data for consumers on
health care costs by providers and Hospitals
o
Physicians Committee
§
Meeting scheduled in August with representative of
Osteopathic medical student program in Alabama.

Workforce Committee
§
Letters being distributed to health care organizations
to obtain information concerning workforce needs in the near future and
possible actions. These responses will be sent to appropriate health
care Deans for their comments and enhancements

State Models
§
Assisted in developed of pharmacy legislation.

§
