Still seeking funds for a second secretarial person; have 2 possible
leads
Laurie Dawson, UAB, 2nd yr medical student leaves next week to return
to her studies. Her work has been 4 star
We have been assigned an advanced nursing student from UAH to work
part time
Michelle Miller is contributing her time to assist on organizational
issues
Ian Childs and Bill King have agreed to work with us on some research
issues
Report on Committees
The following committees have had their meetings and are preparing their
reports. I am including some examples of their recommendations
i. Unintentional Injuries
a. An enhanced restraint law for children under 60 lbs. And 6 y.o.
b. An enhanced graduated drivers license program. 16 & 17 y.o.
i. restricted from driving 10-4am
ii. NO mobile phones
ii. Wellness
a. No smoking in restaurants
b. EPT for 50% of the state in next 2 years
c. Raise $$ for 5,000 children for Child Caring
iii. Uninsured Medicaid
a. Identification of sources for supporting medicaid
iv. Hospital /Nursing Homes (doing work by e-mail)
a. State wide EMS system
b. Better data on quality of care by providers
v. State Models
a. Fairness act on fees for service
b. Contribution of malpractice awards to Medicaid
c. All insurance providers to offer Health Saving Plans
