Baseball Safety
Are you playing baseball or softball this
season? Play it safe. Every year, emergency rooms treat more
than 125,000 kids under age 16 for baseball and softball
injuries. Adults also have high injury rates. These injuries
include a large percentage of sprains, strains, and fractures to
the ankle and knee.
How do you prevent these injuries? Warm up and stretch before
playing. Don’t play through pain—follow doctor’s orders during
recovery. And, whether it’s the family reunion or district
championship, play on a safe diamond. The American College of
Orthopedic Surgeons recommends using breakaway bases-- sliding
into bases alone costs 2 billion dollars for medical treatment
each year.
