Do your kids wear a bike helmet? How about you?
In 2000, 90 percent of people killed in bicycle accidents were
not wearing helmets. 71% of those people were 16 years old and
older. When parents wear helmets, kids are more likely to wear
them, too.
In addition to saving your life, a bike helmet can prevent head
injury. In fact, if you wear a helmet, you reduce your risk of
head injury by 85%. You can explain to kids that injuring your
head can change you. You may not be able to read, play video
games, talk, run or even feed yourself. As for adults, a brain
injury increases your risk for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
