Don't Sweat It

The average adult looses about three cups of sweat each day. Exercise, hot weather or feeling nervous can boost that loss to more than two quarts an hour.

If excessive perspiration embarrasses you, you can do something about it. Prescription antiperspirants work for the underarms, feet, face and hands. A doctor can use a low-level electrical current or Botox to block sweat ducts. In extreme cases, ducts can be surgically removed. If you constantly perspire all over your body, see your doctor. This could be a sign of serious illness.

Some people are concerned with the link between Alzheimer’s and aluminum—an active ingredient in most antiperspirants. While such small amounts haven’t been proven to cause harm, you might prefer a product without aluminum. Several can be found at specialty or health food stores.
